General Information You Must Know
- Make sure you've read pages relevant to your purpose. If you have questions, email me at jls1422@yahoo.com.
- My role is to ensure submissions have potential and are reader-ready, which means I have to read them. The fee for my time, and any comments I feel might assist you (if needed), is 30 cents/single-spaced page of an MSWord document. Note: Clients who use my editing services are immediately eligible for reader feedback, if they choose--no reading fee charge. This doesn't apply to critique services as I don't always see what a client has done after I provide guidance. Editing: http://www.freewebs.com/editmybookandmore
- If you have not edited and checked your manuscript, please do so before you submit it. Proper checking means you’ve: run Spell Check; have visually looked at your MSWord document and adjusted, if needed, areas indicated by red or green lines under words and punctuation; and have carefully read a print copy of what you’ve written. Manuscripts or e-books may need improvement, which is the purpose of this site, and you may not have worked on it with an editor yet; but manuscripts filled with typographical errors, misspellings (not specific to character dialogue), and not properly formatted (paragraphs, chapters or sections), will not be considered reader-ready. If you are unfamiliar with how to properly edit and check what you’ve written, you can learn what’s needed in my e-book, Write, Get Published, and Promote: An Easy e-Guide for New and Aspiring Writers, available for $10.95 through my Web Store. Critique clients receive a gift copy (see Critique page).
- A submission-read is not a critique or edit service. The purpose of a read is to qualify a manuscript or e-book as reader-ready. However, if I feel there’s helpful information or comments I can offer to assist you or your manuscript, I’ll share that with you once I’ve read your submission.
How to Schedule a Read
- Email me at jls1422@yahoo.com with Schedule Read in the Subject line
- Include genre
- Include number of single-spaced pages
- Once I schedule your read, go to http://www.paypal.com and use jls1422@yahoo.com at Send Payment.
- Be sure to include Read Fee as the description, and your email address. The payment amount is the total number of single-spaced pages times .30 (30 cents).
- After you make the payment, email your MSWord document to me.
- Unpaid scheduled reads will not be read.
What Comes Next
Once your manuscript is approved for readers, submit the following to me at jls1422@yahoo.com:
- Genre
- A one-paragraph description of your manuscript or e-book
- Email address you wish readers to use (create a free Yahoo or Google gmail account if you wish to keep these emails separate from your regular account), or tell me you prefer I act as the go-between.
What Happens If a Submission Isn’t Approved?
- I’ll offer comments and suggestions to help you improve it to approval status. Note: Readers know that writers do not submit final drafts; they understand these are in-progress efforts. I want to assist you to get quality feedback. My role is to make sure drafts have potential and are tidied enough so readers are not inundated with typographical errors or hiccups that detract their focus from whether or not what you’ve written is a quality read or what would help it to become one.
- When you feel your document is ready, resubmit it following the above submission process.
